A CARPET of floral tributes covers the steps of the Wirral nightclub following the death of a 15-year-old boy on Friday evening. The teenager, named as Jake Peay-McGurgan, from Birkenhead, was at a specially-organised under-18s event at Stairways in Oliver Street East, on Friday, and was found lying on the dance floor shortly after 7pm. He was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital and later died.
An inquest was opened on Monday and adjourned until July 26.
Friends and family have left dozens of messages on the steps outside the club, paying tribute to a much-missed friend who was loved by everyone he met. On the door is a note written by friends that reads: "We'll rock on with all our hearts with your heart beside us, missing you always. The people that love you will always do for the rest of your life."
Other messages read: "Saviour the carnival high - Rob."
"In the time I've known you I couldn't wish for a better friend, miss you' - Jack."
"Jake may you forever rest in peace, as you will never be forgotten by us" - John."
"In the time I've known you I couldn't wish for a better friend."
Police investigating the death have said there are no suspicious circumstances and witnesses can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or 777 6952.
