A SERIES of drop-in sessions have been organised to update affected residents on the progress of the proposed new-world class golf resort in Hoylake.

The sessions will give Hoylake and West Kirby residents the chance to find out how the scheme has moved forward since Jack Nicklaus was announced as the development partner in July.

They will also give people the opportunity to see for the first time how the various elements of the multi-million pound project link together.

Wirral Council hopes the development will make the borough the "UK capital of golf".

Council leader Phil Davies said he wants local residents to be engaged in the project as much as possible.

“We are excited about this development and how it will add to Wirral’s already strong reputation for golf and leisure activities. Hoylake still holds the record for the highest number of visitors attending The Open in England, demonstrating what an important contributor to the economy of Hoylake, West Kirby and the Wirral golf can be," said Cllr Davies.

“We share the developer’s ambition for Hoylake to be the capital of England’s NW Golf Coast, attracting visitors from across the UK as well as US, Japan and Europe to master the art of links golf at a purpose-built academy and play the courses along the region’s coast.

“It is important the council and the developers keep listening to local people as these proposals move forward. The events in November are just the first stage and there will be other opportunities for people to learn more as the project develops.

“As with many schemes like this, formal consultation will come later, but this is a timely opportunity to provide an update on the progress being made.”

The initiative will bring an 18-hole championship course - designed by Nicklaus - a luxury Marriott hotel, including health and spa facilities and a clubhouse and a 'Links Academy' where visitors can learn about the unique demands of playing links golf before embarking on a tour of the North West’s three championship links courses.

The sessions are being held at Melrose Hall in Hoylake on November 11, 12 and 13 between 1pm and 7pm and at Westbourne Hall in West Kirby on November 18, 19 and 20  between 1pm and 7pm.
