FIREWORKS have been seized from a property in Birkenhead after they were found to be stored without a licence.
Police officers, together with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, attended the premises in Grange Mount at around 4.40pm on Monday.
Two men, aged 28 and 25 from the Birkenhead area, were arrested on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
Station Manager Chris Head, of Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is conducting joint visits to retail premises with Merseyside Police. This is to check the safe storage of fireworks and to ensure they are selling fireworks safely and legally.
“Our officers attended a premises in Birkenhead with Merseyside Police as part of this joint work over the bonfire period.”
DC Diane Rourke of Merseyside Police Partnership Interventions said: “This is a perfect example of partnership working between Merseyside Police & Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service for the benefit of the community."
Anyone with any information about fireworks being stored illegally is asked to call the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
