Birkenhead’s MP Frank Field has announced the latest raft of "Feeding Birkenhead" projects to eliminate hunger among children during school holidays.

Precisley 2,058 youngsters were fed by eight Feeding Birkenhead "food and fun" projects in the summer holidays at an average cost of £14.13 per child for the whole seven weeks.

The schemes were judged to have been very successful and were popular among children and their parents.

Although emphasis was placed upon "fun" rather than "food," the projects ensured hungry youngsters were fed.

Commenting on the timetable for next week’s half-term holiday Mr Field said: "The terrific group of people running these projects across Birkenhead deserve immense credit.

"Their work over the summer benefitted more than 2,000 children across the town.

"Our early evidence suggests this work successfully reduced the numbers of families having to rely on the local food bank.

"Thanks to their ongoing commitment in the October half-term, children will be able to access food and fun for free in Rock Ferry, Tranmere and Birkenhead’s North End."
