HUNDREDS of daffodil bulbs have been planted in Saughall Massie as part of a community initiative aimed at brightening up the area.
Volunteers were joined by student placements from Forget Me Not Farm, based at Carr Farm Garden Centre, and local councillors to plant the bulbs on the green space along Saughall Massie Road.
Andy McCulloch - who started as a volunteer at Tam O'Shanter Urban Farm before founding Woodworkout - is one of those creating placements for students at Carr Farm.
After lending his support to the project, he said: "My team and I are very happy to be involved with a project that helps to improve the local environment."
Local Councillor Bruce Berry, who came up with the idea, added: “I’m really grateful to Andy, his students and Dave Jones the owner of Carr Farm Garden Centre for donating the bulbs and giving up their time to help us brighten up our local community. It was brilliant to see so many people getting involved and, hopefully, in the Spring, we’ll see the results.”
“This is the first stage of our campaign. Next, we’ll be looking at providing planters on pavements and railings in Moreton, as we make the area more attractive to shoppers and residents. If anyone else would like to get involved, I’d be delighted to hear from them.”
