MURDERED police officer David Phillips spent the day before his death celebrating his fourth wedding anniversary and filming his beautiful daughters.

Family members today paid tribute to the 34-year-old "gentle-giant", described by his two children Abigail, seven, and Sophie, three, as "super daddy".

In the days since his death, daughters Abi and Sophie Phillips have filmed a mural of memories where they said their 'daddy was the best daddy in the world because he gave the best kisses and cuddles'.

They also remembered how he played with them in the garden and their holiday of a lifetime to Turkey when 'Daddy was the happiest man there and bought us pancakes and anything we wanted'.

The poignant video, which also featured the police officer's niece and nephew, Thomas, seven, and Annabel, four, also included a series of unseen family photos taken shortly before his death.

Abi, reading handwritten notes on a large piece of paper, said: 'My daddy was kind and caring because he was the funniest daddy ever.'

During a press conference this afternoon, the media heard how PC Phillips had been a true family man and had done everything he could to support the family that idolised him.

Sister Hannah Whieldon said: "Dave, our Dave wasn't just a family man. He was the glue that bound all of the families we represent here together. Nothing escaped his notice, he looked after every detail, every day he strived and strived to make the perfect life for his wife and his little girls."

PC Phillips' sister Hannah told how the day before his death, he had spent the day filming youngest daughter Sophie.

It was also his and Jen's fourth wedding anniversary.

Hannah said: "The day before he was stolen from us he and Jen were filming their youngest girl Sophie. She was singing and dancing and beaming that cheeky smile he cherished and he said 'Wow, she is growing up so fast'.

"That was Sunday afternoon just before his shift. Now he will never see his precious girl's age even a minute more. They'll never be young women to him now. He'll never get to raise his eyebrow disapprovingly of any future boyfriends.

"He'll never walk them down the aisle, growing with the pride he felt every day for his Abi and Sophie, and years from now when life should have been slow and easy, he'll never get to meet his grandchildren. He was stolen from us but by God, what was stolen from him?

"Two girls have been left without a daddy. My mum and dad left without their only son, their eldest child. My sister and I without that big brother who always kept an eye on us, even when, as moody teenagers, we'd have really rather he hadn't.

"My children and Jen's step brother and sister's children - without an uncle they idiolised and countless others are left without a rock to cling to."

Hannah added: "Beyond all our combined grief - which, believe me makes it hard to breath - is that of his beautiful wife Jen. She's only 28. It's her birthday next month. She won't be a pampered wife getting breakfast in bed, she will be a grieving widow."

Earlier today, heartbroken wife Jen and her daughters visited the spot where PC Phillips was knocked down and killed by burglars driving a stolen car.

They laid flowers on the dual carriageway where the officer was murdered.

PC Phillips' parents Robin and Carol, sisters and parents-in-law also came to the road in Wallasey accompanied by chief constable Sir Jon Murphy, who has said the policeman 'did not stand a chance' as he was hit.

Best friend David George described PC Phillips as a "first class police officer, first class father, first class husband, first class son, first class brother and first class friend".

He spoke of his honour at being his best man at his wedding to Jen in 2011.

PC Phillips' youngest sister Kate Phillips said: "He was a man in uniform but as you all saw that picture with his beautiful girls, he was so much more than that - he was my hero.

"A husband, son, brother, friend you could only ever hope to have in your life and we did. I was fortunate enough to call you my brother.

"He meant so much to so many people. He was our world. And our world has become a little darker for us and all that knew him.

"It hurts to look ahead and I'm afraid to look back so right now I look beside me. And beside me are the people I am so proud of, especially our darling Jen, Abi and Sophie.

"Dave would be filled with pride that he left behind such beautiful people

"Although we are broken and a piece of us will always be missing, we will start to mend together. Always together,  with our hero in our hearts."
