A TINY Yorkshire Terrier was found abandoned and tied to a pole in Birkenhead.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after the dog, who has been named Nigel, was found by a member of the public behind a football cage on the corner of Peel Avenue and Union Street.

Nigel, thought to be around four years old, is not microchipped and is currently being cared for by the charity.

He was wearing a distinctive red collar with silver metal bones on it.

RSPCA inspector Leanne Cragg said: “There was no food or water left with Nigel and he was tied to the post with a thin piece of nylon rope. He did have a collar on - a distinctive red collar with silver metal bones on it.

Nigel the Yorkshire Terrier was found abandoned and tied to a pole in Birkenhead.

“He has a skin allergy and his skin was quite inflamed - it does look like it had been like that for quite a long time.

“We don’t know if he was abandoned because someone couldn’t afford to pay for his treatment, but either way it is a callous way to treat an animal.

Wirral Globe:
Nigel's skin is in a terrible state.

“Anyone who has any information on where Nigel has come from should contact us on 0300 123 8018.”
