A CAR involved in a high-speed pursuit through Wallasey on Saturday evening has been found burnt out.

Detectives are re-appealing for witnesses following the two car chase, which officers now believe involved a dark-coloured Lexus driving after a green Mitsubishi Shogun with the registration R531 MRD.

The cars were seen speeding through Brighton Street at around 6pm on Saturday.

A call was also received that a bang was heard by a member of the public but police found no evidence to suggest a gun had been fired.

Police say no one has come forward with any injuries and the Lexus has since been found burnt out.

Detectives are appealing for people out in the area on Saturday to contact them if they saw the pursuit taking place or either car being driven erratically before or afterwards.

Detective Inspector Toni Tate from Wirral CID said: “This incident happened on a bright sunny evening in the middle of Liscard when there were lots of people out and about.

"These two cars were driven at high speed in an extremely dangerous and reckless way and I’m sure they will have attracted people’s attention.

"We are still trying to establish who was driving each car, who else was on board and why the Lexus was seemingly pursuing the Shogun.

"Detectives are examining all the available CCTV from the surrounding area to piece together the route each vehicle took but we need the public’s help.

"Anyone who remembers seeing either of these cars being driven at high speed in Liscard on Saturday night, please call my team on 0151 777 2265 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
