A FESTIVAL organised in memory of a Wirral teenager who died in tragic circumstances has raised has raised more than £1,500 to help fellow youngsters in the community.

CharFest took place on Saturday in New Brighton's Vale Park.

Funds from the event will help Charlotte's Brightside Youth Club - founded in memory of Charlotte Churchill - to continue its fantastic services.

Charlotte, from Wallasey, was just 19 when she died in a car accident in April 2011. Determined to keep her memory alive, mum Angie formed a strong team of supporters and set about starting a charity from scratch.

Years of tireless fundraising led to the opening of Charlotte's Brightside youth centre in February 2013.

Charlotte's Brightside is situated in Molyneux Drive, New Brighton and used by children aged 8-16. The centre is open on Monday and nights from 6pm-8pm.

It has a recording studio, internet café, chill-out area and offers a safe and secure environment for over 60 young people throughout the summer holidays and during term time too.

Saturday's festival saw a number of local bands perform, including Dr Strangelove, JC & The Two Steps and The Plans. Wirral Samba Band also performed.

In a post on the charity's Facebook page, Angie said: "Our wonderful community strikes again. I am forever grateful for the support you all continually give to Brightside, without you all turning up to our events we would not be in the fortunate position we are in.

"We haven't yet deducted outgoings and we are still waiting for some money to come in, but the amount I have so far counted, the Char Fest 2015 has raised £1522.21 for us to continue to run provision for our younger members of our community.

"Thank you to those of you who turned up, thank you to all the artists, all performances were incredible, thanks to 'my' beautiful Brightside team, to Sarah Wilson and all at The Boot, Liscard and to everyone of you wonderful people who support us."
