STAFF from a Wirral supermarket put their pedal power to the test in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.

Friday saw the store manager, HR manager and colleagues from Sainsbury's Prenton store set off on the local leg of the supermarket's Big Bike Ride.

They travelled from Wirral, through Wrexham and Shrewsbury before completing the final loop in Whitchurch and Nantwich over the weekend.

In all, they visited 19 stores and 15 convenience stores.

Ahead of the challenge Jo Nugent, from the Prenton store, said: "My store maanger and some of my colleagues have not been on a bike for many years and as you can imagine, they will have a bit of discomfort and may struggle to sit comfortbaly for a few days."

Wirral Globe: Wirral mayor Cllr Les Rowlands with Ian Massey from the Upton store, Lynn Sherratt and Jo Nugent.

They rode for the Alzheimer's Society, based in the Laurie's Centre in Birkenehad.

Colleagues in stores had the challenge to ride the same distance as those on the road.

Charity Sustrans took their Smoothie Bike in to store on Friday - the faster staff cycled, the faster the attached blender went.

Wirral mayor Cllr Les Rowlands was on hand to try out the bike.
