WALLASEY MP Angela Eagle has been appointed shadow business secretary by new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Ms Eagle - who lost out in the deputy leadership contest to Tom Watson - has also been appointed First Secretary of State, which means she will stand in for Mr Corbyn at Prime Minister's Questions when needed.
Following Saturday's appointments, Ms Eagle took to Twitter to thank those who supported her during her deputy leadership campaign.
Jeremy Corbyn took almost 60% of more than 400,000 votes cast by Labour members and supporters.
Many frontbench MPs refused to work under him, with rivals Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendell among those stepping down.
But fellow rival Andy Burnham vowed to work with Mr Corbyn and was today appointed Shadow Home Secretary.
Big thank you to my campaign team especially @DanHughesOnline @ben_murray @CllrBarrieG @zmeekn / you were fantastic!
