THE owner of a Wirral care home has been stripped of its licence after repeatedly failing to ensure residents were safe and properly cared for.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has cancelled the registration of Amrit Limited – which ran Safe Harbour Dementia Care Home - which means it can no longer operate the Bebington home.

During an unannounced inspection in June, inspectors found that the provider was still failing to ensure people living at the Abbotts Drive home were safe and properly cared for.

Previous inspections had observed significant shortfalls and a continued failure by the provider to make the required improvements.

In July, the Globe reported how the CQC said the facility had taken steps forward since an earlier inspection rated it as "inadequate," but that more still needed to be done.

The commission said it had "held a number of concerns" about Safe Harbour Dementia Care Home for the last two years and had taken enforcement action against the registered provider.

The CQC said the provider was unable to demonstrate compliance with the regulations inspected.

During this time, a warning notice and fixed penalty notice were served as a result of the provider’s failure to ensure appropriate arrangements were in place for the safe management of medicines.

At their latest inspection in June, the CQC found continued concerns regarding the home’s health and safety procedures, general condition of the home, record keeping and leadership.

Debbie Westhead, deputy chief inspector of adult social care at CQC, said: “People are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care and Amrit Limited has failed the residents of Safe Harbour Dementia Care Home.

“The provider was placing people at significant risk of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care and was unable to address the issues we identified. For this reason we had no option but to cancel their registration.”

The CQC said Amrit Limited withdrew their appeal against a notice of decision to cancel its registration in August.

The home has since been taken over by a new provider.
