AN investigation has been launched after a number of Wirral hairdressers and cafes were burgled during August.

Police believe the same people could be responsible for the break-ins, which took place at a number of premises across the borough, including Birkenhead and Bebington.

It is believed three men on scooters have approached the premises and smashed the windows.

Items including high value products and charity boxes were among those taken.

The burglaries have all taken place when the premises have been closed.

Officers have visited the affected premises to offer reassurance to business owners and to also offer crime prevention advice.

A full investigation is underway and forensic and CCTV opportunities are being explored.

Detective Inspector Paul Denn said:  “I know these scooters are being stored somewhere and that someone will have information about who is using them to commit these burglaries.

“It is also possible that the offenders may visit commercial premises in advance so I would also appeal to anyone who notices anyone or anything suspicious to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have been offered hair products for sale which they believe may be suspicious to get in touch.”

Anyone who has information is asked to call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2039 or the confidential Crimestoppers line, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
