But a planned display by pilot Lauren Richardson in an adapted Pitts special plane was cancelled because of bad weather near the airfield she was leaving from.

Organiser Carole Jackson told the Globe: "Despite the poor weather forecast, we had a nice sunny day.

"We were disappointed that Lauren Richardson was unable to display due to the poor weather from an airfield down south.

"However we managed to replace that with a display from New Brighton Lifeboat's Hovercraft along with West Kirby Lifeboats Inshore lifeboat and their new Hagland tractor.

"There were queues all day from the public and visitors wanting to go aboard the new Shannon class lifeboat."
