GLOBE Columnist Peter Grant saw the first night of a comedy play that Merseyside has taken to its heart ever since.

Now it's coming back as strong as ever … and he has his notebook ready.

Is it really ten years since the Wirral was at war with Liverpool?

Yes. A decade has come and gone.

Years before any Super Authority and changes of Government - locally and nationally.

Tranmere have been relegated since and Esther McVey has gone.

Brick up the Mersey Tunnels – a piece of musical theatre by writers Dave Kirby and Nicky Allt - became a surprise hit at the Royal Court in 2006.

It was a hit with 150,000 people who have seen it so far.

Wirral Globe:

Andrew Schofield and Adam Keast in Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels, which returns to the Royal Court in Liverpool next year.

The show will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in January 2016 with a five-week run and the Court's CEO and creative guru, Kevin Fearon, told the Globe it is right bringing it back in all its glory since its last sell-out run in 2015.

He said: "So many people were calling for it come back. Just reading the script again has put a smile on my face.

"I am looking forward to seeing full houses of happy people all over again."

And it is the majority of the debut cast returning (originals Gerard Gardner and Davy Edge, have retired from the show and are replaced by Paul Duckworth.

Wirral-based actors Roy Brandon, Carl Chase and Suzanne Collins will join Andrew Schofield, Adam Keast, Francis Tucker and Eithne Browne.

Bob Eaton will again direct. Set design is by acclaimed Billy Meall and Howard Gray is the musical director.

"Brick Up" (as Liverpudlians and Wirral folk abbreviate it) tells the fictional story of some cross-Mersey rebellion. Tunnel vision took on a new light.

Three angry Liverpudlians have had enough of being (as they claim) looked down and mocked on by the self- proclaimed upper class of the Wirral Peninsula.

The trio decide to take the law into their own hands and . . . literally brick up the Kingsway tunnel.

Co-writer Dave Kirby told the Globe: "To have this back at its spiritual home for its 10th anniversary with the same cast is going to be extra special."

And Nicky Allt added with pride: "Brick Up is coated in the River Mersey."

Bring it on!

Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels is on from January 29 to February 27, 2016.
