ORGANISERS of Hoylake's 10k coastal fun run are urging more people to sign up as the countdown to this year's event continues.

So far, 220 people have registered for the Globe-backed charity fundraiser, now in its 22nd year, which takes place on Sunday, September 20.

Starting outside Hoylake Community Centre in Hoyle Road, it raises much-needed funds for Wednesday Special Needs Club's soft play resource, which is based at the venue and is popular feature.

Last year 651 took part, raising around £9,000 for the cause.

Race secretary Carla Williams is confident that the same number will sign up this time but told the Globe registration has been slow so far, compared to the same period last year.

She said: "I've had calls from people who are taking part in other charity runs and say they will sign up for the 10k, but so far, registration is slow.

"The number that have signed up so far is lower than it was at the same time last year, when 300 people had registered.

"However, we've still got four weeks to go and I'm confident that we can reach the number that took part last year.

"So I'm urging Globe readers to put on their running shoes and sign up for what is an excellent cause.

"There are a lot of runs at this time of year, all for equally worthwhile causes.

"As I have said before, the 10k is terribly important to the club as it is our major fundraiser.

"All funds go towards the Sensory Resource's upkeep and maintenance, which is maintained by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers.

"If we don't have a successful run the club could really struggle."

First man across the finish line last year was Phil Walton, 32 from Wallasey AC in a time of 34 minutes and 13 seconds.

First woman was Charlotte Mason, aged 21, from City of York AC, in 38 minutes, five seconds.

It starts outside Hoylake Community Centre in Hoyle Road at 11am.
