AN impressive £1,185 has been handed to the Wirral branch of the RSPCA after pet patients took part in a sponsored splash-a-thon in its honour.
Staff from ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists presented a cheque for the final sum to RSPCA inspector Leanne Cragg on Thursday following the fundraiser in the hospital's hydrotherapy pool earlier this summer.
Kennel assistant Lisa Hughes - based at the Wirral RSPCA rehoming centre - took part in the splash-a-thon with her Siberian Husky Jacob who has hip dysplasia and is a regular hydrotherapy patient.
Around 10 pet patients took part in the splash-a-thon to raise funds. Jacob raised more than £100 for charity.
Lisa said: “Jacob loves his hydrotherapy sessions which help him enormously in keeping his muscles active.”
Suzanne Cottriall, head physiotherapist at ChesterGates, added: "We are delighted to have raised funds in such an innovative way that involved many of our pet patients in having lots of ‘splashing’ fun. It is lovely to know that our contribution will go towards helping the valuable work of the local RSPCA.”
The hydrotherapy pool at ChesterGates is one of the finest in the country and plays a vital role in the recovery of thousands of pet patients operated on by the hospital.
