A CYCLING trio hit the road for a trip from London to Paris that has raised thousands of pounds for Wirral Hospice St John's.

Joanne Campbell, Christine Bale and Frank Sheridan raised more than £5,500 between them after taking on a journey that saw them ride more than 300 miles in just four days, to support the charity's work.

Reflecting on the experience, Frank said: "The ride was just fantastic! The whole experience was inspiring from start to finish.

"We were cycling alongside individuals who had been through really tough times, but everyone worked hard and supported each other, as we were all working towards the same goal.

"Riding into Paris was extremely emotional with everyone clapping and cheering – even traffic was at a stand- still.

"We just couldn’t believe the reaction we got! I had a wonderful time and can’t wait to sign up for next year!"

After signing up to the ride last October, the three worked hard in both training and fundraising to make sure they went the distance and hit their sponsorship targets.

Christine added: "At first we didn’t think we could raise the £1,470 target needed for each participant but with support and generosity of our friends, family and work colleagues, we smashed it and then some!”

The hospice is looking for interested individuals to join their team for the July 2016 ride, which coincides with the finish of the Tour de France.

Kerry Threadgill, fundraising events officer said: “We are very excited about next year’s tour and have 25 places reserved for the event.

"Our team is growing fast, with half of those places already taken – including one for me!

"The impact this event will have on our organisation is huge and we urge anyone looking to make a difference, to get in touch for further information."
