A COMMUNITY group in New Brighton can now push ahead with developing an economic plan for the town after receiving a £10,000 government grant.

The Coastal Community team, which features businesses and groups, was awarded the cash from the Department of Communities and Local Government.

The team was formed by the council's Wallasey Constituency Team and has almost 700 members, including business leaders representing 125 traders.

Work can now get underway with local residents, businesses and visitors to the area over the coming months to help produce an economic plan which will be published at the end of January.

It aims to build upon the recent investment in flats by Promenade Estates as well as existing town centre plans for Victoria Road and Seabank Road shopping areas.

Members of the Coastal Communities Team include Arcadia Amusements, Caffe Cream, Championship Miniature Golf, Floral Pavilion Theatre and Fort Perch Rock.

Among the voluntary groups are Friends of Vale Park, Mersey Compass, Momentary Art Project, Promenade Estates (formerly Neptune Developments, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Seabank Road Traders’ Association, Seabank Road Residents' and Tenants' Association and Victoria Road Traders' Association.

Caroline Laing, Wallasey Constituency Team manager, said: "The collective vision for New Brighton is that it builds upon its strengths to become a year round premier destination, attracting increased day trippers and overnight stays and increasing employment, whilst supporting and responding to the needs of the local community."

Details of the work as it progresses will be published on the Council’s website and posted on Twitter @wallaseyteam."
