LOOKING for something to do this weekend? We've put together a list of a few places worth visiting...

1. Tam O'Shanter Urban Farm

Wirral Globe:

The popular Urban Farm, in Bidston, is holding a summer fair on Sunday. The event will feature birds of prey, hook a duck, face painting, pyrography, tombolas, pottery painting, whack-a-rat and other family friendly games.

Merseyside Police and Fire service will be on hand to give children tours of their emergency vehicles.

The highlight of the day expected to be piglet racing. The event is free to enter and runs from 10am until 4pm.

2.  Search for elves and fairies in Wirral's parks

Wirral Globe:

Birkenhead Park now has its very own elf village, and Vale Park, New Brighton its own fairy village, as a result of partnership work between Wirral Council’s Ranger service, Wirral Met College and local community groups.

Cllr Meaden says: “The elf village was created by our rangers in partnership with Wirral Met College and includes a lot of arts and crafts work in the design and decoration of ‘houses’ for the little people.

“Community resources like this help us to achieve our target of making sure that all children are ready for school while also creating a more attractive environment.”

Vale Park’s fairy village was created in partnership with the pirates of the Black Pearl, and gives some of Wirral’s magical visitors a place to stay.

3. Claire House Splash Dash

One of the biggest and messiest days out in the charity event calendar makes its way to Birkenhead Park for the very first time on Saturday.

Participants are asked to run, skip, walk or even dance the three kilometre route, while being pelted with coloured powdered paint at every turn.

The Claire House Splash Dash has so far raised more than £130,000 to support the care of seriously ill children and their families.

Wirral Globe:

The charity hopes the Birkenhead Park event will add even more to that total.

Places for the Claire House Splash Dash will be available on the day from 11am. Prices start at £7.50 with all proceeds supporting the work of Claire House Children’s Hospice.

4. Join in the fun at New Brighton

Wirral Globe: New Brighton Marine Lake

Organisers are preparing to bring a little bit of Rio to Wirral for the first ever Love New Brighton Parade.

Cllr Pat Hackett, Wirral's cabinet member for the economy, says the parade cements the role of the regenerated New Brighton as a fantastic community and tourism asset, and says the resort is preparing to welcome visitors from all over Wirral and the City Region for the event.

The parade takes place on Sunday, July 12, and leaves the Tower Grounds, New Brighton, at 12pm. It will progress up Victoria Road before turning onto Rowson Street and moving onto Marine Point before moving back along the promenade and to the Tower Grounds.

The parade will be led by Wirral Samba Band with the newly formed New Brighton Samba Group in support, as well as the children of New Brighton and Mount Primary Schools, who’ve been learning about samba.

The parade will include the Black Pearl Pirates, The New Brighteners, Showrunners Street Dancers, New Brighton Sea Cadets, Multivox and many more. The theme is, ‘A Little Bit of Rio Comes to New Brighton,’ and the aim is to make this an annual event.
