LOVE was definitely in the air in Parkgate today when romantic Kiall O’Hara decided it was the perfect location to melt his girlfriend’s heart.

When 20-year-old Linzi Titcombe asked for a coffee mocha-filled chocolate wafer cone at Parkgate Ice Cream, she had no idea it would contain something a little more sparkly than your average desert.

Her partner, 21-year-old Army man Kiall, who is based in Germany, had decided today was the day he asked Linzi to become his wife, popping the diamond-encrusted engagement ring into the bottom of her cone.

Once outside the ice cream parlour, Kiall dropped to one knee next to the promenade’s donkey stand – with Linzi immediately giving him the answer he was looking for.

The bride-to-be, who lives in Wales, said: “It was a massive surprise, I wasn’t expecting it all.

“Kiall heard that Parkgate was a bit different, with nice scenery and was supposed to be home to famous ice cream.”

The proposal was witnessed by shop owner Dawn Lyon, who had her own part to play in how it unfolded.

“I was in the shop when this young couple came in – they were very cuddly. After she had picked the cone, she turned her back and as she did, he handed me an engagement ring.

“I’ve had the shop for 30 years and nothing like this has ever happened before – I’m still astounded.”
