CREWS enjoyed splendid sailing at the weekend as West Kirby Sailing Club staged their 100th Regatta.

There was three days of competition on the Dee Estuary in a highly-successful festival even though heavy rain put a bit of a dampener on things during the last races.

There was terrific support with most of the local classes in action and the competition was sometimes very lively in fresh wind conditions.

The last of the local Regattas will be at Hoylake on August Bank Holiday Saturday.

Meanwhile the Menai Strait Fortnight is now only four weeks away. West Kirby and Royal Mersey Yacht Club will be amongst the Regatta hosts at Beaumaris during the second week.

Classes taking part will include the Stars, Hilbres and Falcons from West Kirby, the Operas from Hoylake and the Mylnes from Royal Mersey.

The Fortnight opens on Monday August 3 with the Royal Dee Regatta off Beaumaris and ends on Saturday, August 15 at the same venue under the Royal Anglesey burgee.

The West Kirby Regatta will be on Wednesday August 12 with Royal Mersey in charge the following day.
