A DRIVER has been arrested and released on bail after a crash in Birkenhead left a biker with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to the Borough Road flyover at the approach to the Birkenhead tunnel at around 8.30pm on Friday.

A motorcycle and a Nissan Micra were involved in a collision on the flyover.

The 42-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital suffering multiple injuries.  Police say he is in a critical but stable condition following surgery.

The woman driver of the Micra has been arrested and bailed.

A police spokesman said: “Merseyside Police can confirm a 25-year-old woman was arrested last night in connection with a serious road traffic collision in Birkenhead that has left a motorcyclist in a critical condition.

“Investigators are continuing with their inquiries into the incident.

“They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.“
