WIRRAL'S Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals are to take on a further 150 nurses as part of a major new recruitment drive.

The trust which runs the two hospitals is calling on experienced and newly qualified nurses, as well as those wanting to return to nursing, to get in contact.

Gaynor Westray, deputy chief nurse of Wirral University Teaching Hospital, said: “We believe that nurses should be able to concentrate on what brought them into this great profession in the first place - to provide compassionate care to everyone that needs it, whatever they need.

“Our plans are ambitious. We’re aiming to be one of the first UK trusts to have a fully digital patient record system. This technology will provide our nurses the freedom to spend even more time caring for our patients. The future plans for this technology will be something you will want to be part of.”

As well as recruiting additional nurses, the trust has committed to focus on nurturing its existing staff to further develop their nursing skills.

This combination will ensure Wirral hospitals are able to meet the demands of modern healthcare, delivered with traditional nursing values of compassion and care.

Sue Hemer, colorectal consultant nurse at Arrowe Park Hospital, has been working at the trust for more than 30 years.

She said: “I started as a student nurse when the hospital first opened in 1982 and was instantly hooked on the buzz I got from helping the local people.

“Nursing has changed a lot during my time here and staff are now busier than ever before.

“This investment in new staff will help ease the pressure on current staff, improve care for our patients, and give dozens of individuals the chance to begin a genuinely satisfying career.”

Theatre staff nurse Dave Byrne, said: “The new staff will give our hospitals a fresh, vibrant feel and will learn lots from the many experienced colleagues and experts who already work at our trust.

“We have a great team that works together to provide friendly, effective care for our patients. We are a very busy hospital trust so the recruitment of more nurses will have a really positive impact for both our patients and staff.”
