AN ambitious project has transformed a Wirral Girl Guides headquarters into a facility for all the community to enjoy.

Upgrade work at the Summer Camp for Girls on Leasowe Road has recently been completed thanks to a £37,800 grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust.

The camp – which is used for events and holidays for young people living on Merseyside – is also the headquarters for Wallasey Girl Guides.

Celebrations took place on Saturday to mark the £60,000 project’s completion, which has created and fitted out a new building on the site and a disabled toilet and wet room.

The Summer Camp’s management team initiated the project to meet the need for a suitable place that would allow young people of all abilities to enjoy the camp and what it has to offer.

Trustee Pam Baker says, “The new wetroom and building are great additions to the camp. They mean it will become available to the wider community and young people with disabilities.”

Paul Taylor, executive director of Veolia Environmental Trust, said: “This ambitious project has opened up this facility so that now everyone can use and enjoy it.

“I hope everyone had fun on Saturday and I look forward to hearing about the camp’s ongoing success.”
