A MAN died after being hit by a train in Meols last night.

British Transport Police were called to a crossing after reports a man had been struck by a train at around 9.30pm.

Officers from BTP and Merseyside Police attended along with paramedics.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, between Meols and Manor Road stations.

 Transport Police said the death is being treated as non-suspicious

A spokesman said: “British Transport Police officers were called to the line close to Tolands crossing at Bertram Drive North to reports a man had been struck by a train.

“It was reported to BTP at 9.32pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Medics from the North West Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The authorities have not disclosed the name of the deceased.

The line was closed while investigations were carried out and replacement buses were introduced by Merseyrail.

The line had re-opened by this morning.

It is the second tragic incident on the West Kirby to Liverpool line in the last six weeks.

Sixteen-year-old Rachelle Owen lost her life when she was struck by a train at the Drummond Road foot crossing at Hoylake on Friday, April 17.

An inquest held at Liverpool Coroner's Court found the Hilbre High School Humanities College student had taken her own life.
