HOMEOWNERS living near a "nightmare" stretch of Wirral road say an accident is waiting to happen unless more is done to tackle speeding.

Residents of Prenton Hall Road in Prenton say cars regularly shoot past at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour..

They say it is a problem they have endured for many years and asking for traffic calming meqsures to be introduced.

One said: "There is a sign at the top of the road urging drivers to slow down. Although some abide by it, many choose to ignore it and go hell for leather. It is extremely dangerous."

Another householder, who has lived on Prenton Hall Road for more than ten years, told the Globe: “As far as I’m concerned, unless something is done to tackle speeding motorists, this road is just an accident waiting to happen.

“The worst times are early in the morning and at around 7pm.

"Themost reckless ar ethe bikers. The speed some of them go along here is frightening, it must be 90mph to 100mph.

"It’s a nightmare. The bikes go screaming past the house. It’s shocking to hear.

“If there was a child crossing the road and they were hit by a bike at the speed, they would not stand a chance.”

“All we want is for the council to install speed cameras or other traffic-calming measures because they would certainly act as a deterrent."

Wirral Council said it has been made aware of the problem and will be looking into it.
