A MAN was rescued from a house fire in Woodchurch after his pet dog raised the alarm.

Firefighters attended Orrets Meadow Road in Woodchurch on Sunday night after a pan of food set alight in the kitchen.

A neighbour called 999 after hearing a smoke alarm and the dog barking.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the occupier and his pet from the property.

Station manager Richie Clarke said: “This highlights the importance of having smoke alarms fitted and checking on neighbours.

“We ask people to check on the vulnerable or elderly in the community and ensure their property has alarms fitted.

"Smoke alarms should be fitted on each level of the home and tested each week.”
