MOTORISTS are being advised to avoid the Wallasey tunnel after a six vehicle crash.
The A59 Wallasey Tunnel approach road is closed westbound, with slow traffic due to the accident.
Several vehicles are involved in the collision, which happened between Dock Road and Junction 1 of the M53.
Merseyside Police and the Highways Agency were called to the smash shortly before 8.15am.
A spokesman said the cars involved included a silver Vauxhall Astra, a grey Renault Megane and a black Ford Fiesta.
No one is believed to have been injured.
Traffic leaving the Wallasey Tunnel onto the motorway is affected. Traffic from Wirral to Liverpool is not believed to be affected.
A diversion is in place via the A5139 and back onto the M53 towards Upton via the roundabout at J1.
