SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has announced the closure of its Home Plus store in Bromborough, putting 74 jobs under threat.
The company said it had taken the "difficult decision" to close its remaining six DIY and homeware stores after an initial wave of cost-cutting closures earlier this year.
The store at Croft retail park will close its doors for good on June 27.
A 45-day consultation period is now underway.
Tesco said it would be looking to relocate the affected 74 staff wherever possible.
The Home Plus store sells a range of clothes, electrical goods, bathroom and home products.
A spokesman said: “We've taken the difficult decision to close our remaining six Homeplus stores, including our store in Bromborough.
“I recognise the closure will affect many hard working colleagues.
"Our priority is now to explain what the announcement means for them and, wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with Tesco.
“We would like to thank all customers who have shopped in our store."
The Globe went out to Croft Retail Park and spoke to shoppers and staff about the situation.
John Mallon, 30, a student of International Journalism, from West Kirby, said: "It's a terrible shame, because the store has got everything you need.
"Hopefully, they can relocate all staff to other stores."
