A YOUNG Wirral man was dragged into a woodland during an attempted sex attack in Bromborough in the early hours of the morning.

The 20-year-old was walking along New Chester Road when the man tried to pull him into a nearby woodland and sexually assault him.

He managed to struggle free and get away from the attacker.

He is described as white, 6ft, of stocky build with a moustache. He was wearing gloves.

Merseyside Police was called at 2.55am by a member of the public after she found the 20-year-old in a distressed state.

Officers searched the area for the offender and detectives from the force's specialist rape investigation team Unity are now leading the enquiry, while neighbourhood officers step up patrols to reassure the community.

CCTV from the surrounding area is being viewed and witnesses are being sought.

The victim is currently being helped and supported by specially-trained officers from the Unity team.

Detective Inspector Terry Davies said: "Our enquiries are at a very early stage and we are still in the process of speaking to the man to piece together exactly what has happened to him.

"He is very upset so we are talking things slowly and giving him the time and support he needs.

"It is important that we speak to as many witnesses as possible so that we can build up an understanding of the chain of events.

"If you were in the New Chester Road area in the early hours of Tuesday and remember seeing anything suspicious, please get in touch.

"This is very much an isolated incident and attacks like this are very rare across Merseyside.”
