MORE than 1,000 people have now signed up to take part in this year’s Wirral Race For Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Organisers hope 3,600 women will sign up for the Globe-backed event, held in Birkenhead Park on Sunday, June 28. So far, 1,043 have done so.

Last year the event raised £175,000; the aim this time is to raise £164,000.

As well as raising funds for lifesaving research, taking part in Race For Life is an easy way to be more active.

Jennifer Ward, Cancer Research UK’s Wirral event manager, urged more women to sign up for the event.

She said: “Every month, around 3,300 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West.

"Survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK have been at the heart of this process.

"We want to bring bring forward the days when all cancers and cured which is why we are urging women to sign up now to help us beat cancer sooner."

The Globe has been the proud 'official newspaper' of the race since 2006.
