A NURSE based at Wirral Hospice St John's has set herself a trio of challenges to raise vital funds for the charity.

Lucille Buttery's first saw her flying at speeds reaching 100mph across Penryhn Quarry in Bangor down the longest zip line in Europe and fastest in the World. She was joined by friends Pauline Lawrence and Sarah Orchard.

She has also set her sights on the Liverpool to Chester Bikeathon on July 5 and the MBNA Chester Marathon on October 4.

Lucille’s decision to take the plunge and sign up for a challenge was inspired by one patient in particular whom she helped to care for at Wirral Hospice last year.

She said: "He was always planning his next adventure, even during his illness. Sadly this patient is no longer with us.

Although looking forward to the marathon on October 4, Lucille reveals that this will be the hardest challenge of them all.

She added: "The marathon is my most dreaded challenge because it requires the most mental preparation and dedication.

"I'm hoping my determination will get me to the finish line though – I've got the time to really commit and will work hard to finish on a high.

"Wirral Hospice is such a fantastic place, providing vital care and support to patients and their families.

"I am pushing myself to the limit and out of my comfort zone to raise as much money as I can.

"We have an amazing team at the Hospice and I feel so proud and honoured to work there".
