A MASKED armed robber threatened staff with a knife during a late night raid in Wallasey – but ended up leaving empty handed.

The knife-wielding man entered Bargain Booze on Brighton Street at around 10.50pm last night.

He threatened the staff member behind the counter and demanded money but left the shop empty handed when his demands were refused.

Police were called and a search of the area was conducted. Enquiries are ongoing and CCTV is being examined.

Although uninjured the staff member was left distressed following his ordeal.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry, said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have seen a man acting suspiciously to come forward.

"This must have been a very frightening experience for the staff member, who has been left very shaken following their ordeal.”

The offender is described as being white, aged in his 20s of a slim/medium build. He was wearing black and grey tracksuit bottoms, a black Adidas tracksuit top and black gloves. He spoke with a local accent and had his face covered during the incident.
