Detectives in Wirral are appealing for witnesses after a fight in a snooker club car park left one man with a serious head injury.

Patrols were called to the rear of Riley’s snooker club on Argyle Street following reports that a man had been knocked unconscious.

On arrival they found a man lying on the floor with a head injury and a group of men standing nearby arguing among themselves.

Officers spoke to the group while paramedics treated the injured man and following initial enquiries, arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of assault.

The victim, who is 33, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for treatment before later being transferred to Walton Neurological Centre.

He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Detectives believe the victim and attacker know each other and that an argument had initially started between the pair in a nearby pub before escalating into a fight outside in the car park.

The 20-year-old man was interviewed while in custody before being released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.

They are keen to trace independent witnesses to the incident, which happened at 10.20pm, on Wednesday, March 18.
