A WIRRAL art gallery is competing for the chance to host a major exhibition in October and needs your vote.

If the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum's bid to Connnect!  is successful, it would see internationally-known artists Davy and Kristin McGuire use two marble statues, Pauline and Love to create a series of grottos at the Birkenhead venue.

Using projections, lighting, textures, sound and print, the gallery would be transformed into an enchanted garden animating a narrative imagined and developed with staff and visitors.

The competition is part of the forthcoming Museums at Night, which will explode into life from Wednesday May 13 to Saturday, May 16 and Friday October 30 – Saturday, October 31.

Alison Bailey Smith of the Friends of the Williamson Art Gallery and Wirral Museums said: "We are delighted to be the only organisation in Merseyside to be short-listed for the potential to host the McGuires in the area.

"We are hoping the opportunity to work with Davy and Kristen McGuire would give new creative insight into our existing collections, including a lovely marble statue called Pauline that has watched over exhibitions for over 70 years.

"The shortlist was announced in the same week we heard that the Williamson was in the running for a Wirral Tourism Award which we thankfully went on to win -Wirral Tourism Team of the Year so everything hopefully is going in the right direction to keep the building alive and lively."
