DRAMA students from a Wirral school are to perform at Salford's Lowry Theatre this week.

St Mary's Catholic College sixth formers first performed their ground-breaking production of a National Theatre play for parents and fellow students in February.

But now the cast of 13 students has been invited to reprise their production of Hacktivists at Salford's famous Lowry Theatre as part of a national youth arts programme.

They will take to the stage of the Lowry Drama Studio this Friday, May 1, at 6.30pm.

The brand new play, by National Theatre playwright Ben Ockrent, tackles topical issues of teenage media hackers.

The students developed and rehearsed it as part of their A Level and BTec examination course work.

And after treading the boards in Salford, they could be chosen to perform at the National Theatre itself in London later this year.

St Mary's head of drama, Ms Ciara McCallion, said: "I have been stunned by the talent and dedication shown by our students in putting together their unique production of Hacktivists.

"It's a very powerful piece, and brings a sharp focus to all the issues surrounding modern social media.

"Our students have been greatly inspired by taking part in the National Theatre programme, and they are thrilled to be able to bring their creation to a bigger audience."
