TRANMERE Rovers' interim manager Alan Rogers is preparing his squad for what he says will be "the fight of our lives" against Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

During a press conference at Prenton Park this afternoon Rogers - who is in temporary charge following Micky Adams' departure from the club - says the hardwork on the training ground now needs to be transferred onto the pitch come 3pm on Saturday.

Adams left the manager's role by mutual consent, with just two games of the season remaining, after Rovers were beaten 3-0 by Oxford at Prenton Park last weekend.

It was their fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them bottom of League Two and two points adrift of safety.

They will be relegated from the Football League if they lose at Home Park and Hartlepool or Cheltenham win their home games against Exeter and Shrewsbury respectively.

Alan Rogers, and academy manager Shaun Garnett have taken temporary charge of first-team affairs.

Saturday's game against seventh-on-the-table Plymouth could scarcely be more important for Tranmere. They could be heading for a League Football exit if they loose and results elsewhere go against them.

On his squad's performance this week, Rogers said: "It's been great, we've had a great response from the boys and I'm feeling positive.

"We had a look at the DVD of last weekend's game v Oxford and I think there were a few things defensively that were a bit off so we've been working on that.

"We've worked on a way of playing to try and nullify Plymouth and a work ethic like nothing before because we're fighting for our lives.

"What we will have will be a squad who will be prepared to run through brick walls for us if that's what they've got to do.

"We're looking forward, we've had a good week's training, the work ethic has been fantastic and the boys have bought into what we're trying to do.

"I've had to pick a team and a squad that is prepared to work and get a result and I'm confident that the squad we're taking will be able to do that.

"It's a massive game. If I was a player, it's a game that I'd want to be involved in."

At a press conference at Prenton Park on Monday, Garnett said he hoped the squad would "perform a minor miracle" and stay in league two.

He said: "We know how important Saturday is. We're focussing on the task in hand - which is to get a result at Plymouth.

"We're going there with just one focus - to come away with a fighting chance.

"Alan and I will pick a team that can salvage us something from the game.

"We've been in since very early this morning looking at different ways to get the best out of the players.

"We think we've come up with a cunning plan.

“Hopefully, we can perform a minor miracle and keep us in the league."
