A WIRRAL mum is kicking up a stink after seeing red over the state of dog poo on her children’s walk to school.

Sophie Vince, from Prenton, has set up a petition calling on Wirral Council to keep the area around Prenton Primary School clean and urges the authority to do more to catch the culprits by installing CCTV.

So far, 32 names have been collected by those who too have grown tired of dodging dog mess.

Sophie – who is mum to seven-year-old Jazmin and three-year-old Reggie – said: “Every morning we walk down Northwood Road and up Bramwell Avenue to the school gate.

“There has always been a problem with dog poo around the school perimeter but over the last year or so it has certainly got worse.

“Not a day goes by where people don’t have to dodge the mess or some poor kid goes into school with it on their shoe.”

A number of parents whose children attend the school say they have contacted Wirral Council to have the streets cleaned but nothing has ever happened.

Sophie told the Globe she “saw red” after one particular incident last month.

She said: “The straw that broke the camel’s back was a week or two before the Easter half term. I was walking Jazmin to school with Reggie in the pram, I noticed there seemed to be more dog poo than ever and we dodged our way up the road.

“On our way back home, every single piece had been trodden in and when I got home, I noticed my hall also had a trail of it from the pram wheel. I saw red and decided enough was enough.”

After searching online, Sophie found various news articles from different towns where angry parents had too petitioned their local council.

“I have until May 5 to get at least 100 signatures in order for it to be put to council so I am trying to drum up as much publicity as I can.

“Our children shouldn’t have to mind their step on their way to school. I believe these dog owners should be named and shamed and fined for not picking up after their pets.”

Wirral Council’s ruling Labour group recently announced plans in its budget to expand the dog enforcement team in a bid to tackle dog fouling across the borough, with more than £100,000 due to be invested.
