CLAIRE House hospice is hoping to rally runners to take part in one the country's toughest events.

The "Excalibur" off-road marathon in the Clwydian Range of North Wales is organised by the hospice to raise vital funds to care for children and young adults living with terminal illness.

Runners and walkers are being urged to come out in force to conquer Excalibur and beat last year’s fundraising total of £30,000.

Claire House announced well-known outdoor clothing company the Regatta Group as the official sponsor with the firm having been an enthusiastic supporter of the charity over recent years.

Hospice organiser Mark Pearson said: "We really value the support of the Regatta Group and Excalibur wouldn't be the success that it is without them.

"Excalibur is growing year-on-year and has become such an important event, not just for Claire House, but in the running and walking community as a whole.

Regatta Group executive Laura Kay said: "We’re very proud to be sponsoring the Excalibur event for the second year in row.

"The Regatta Group has strong family values and supporting an event that is not only based in the outdoors but also helps families at a really difficult time is very important to us.”

Employees at Pioneer Point, Regatta’s global distribution centre in Ellesmere Port, regularly volunteer for the hospice both at its Bebington-based facility and fundraising events.

The 2015 Excalibur will be the fourth of its kind and will take place on Saturday, May 30.

As well as a full marathon, the event also consists of a half-marathon route with both challenges providing spectacular scenery for everyone taking part to enjoy.
