THE parents of a Wirral schoolgirl who has spent her life wearing prosthetic feet have praised Wirral hospital staff for helping their daughter turn into a "positive little superstar".

Baylee Abbott, from Oxton, was born at Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital in 2003 with congenital malformation of her lower limbs.

Parents Jason and Sara have said they can't thank Wirral Limb Centre enough for the support they've offered the family throughout their daughters’ childhood.

Regular visits to the Trust’s specialist limb centre at Clatterbridge Hospital throughout the years has seen Baylee being fitted with a number of silicone prosthetics so she could carry on with her active lifestyle of swimming, dancing and running.

Baylee now also loves shopping for flip flops too after the Wirral Limb Centre provided her with some custom made prosthetics with toes.

Never to let anything (or anyone) get her down, Baylee gave a prosthetic awareness presentation just over a year ago in front of more than 200 of her fellow classmates at Oxton St. Saviour’s Primary School.

This positive and remarkable attitude was later recognised when she went on to win a national award for children with upper limb deficiencies following her inspirational talk.

During her talk Baylee said:“You should never stare at someone just because they look a bit different. It's much better to just ask them about their condition.

"For anyone else with a limb deficiency, I tell them to try their best, stay positive and never give up."

The Wirral Limb Centre offers rehabilitation, as well as physical and psychological support to patients of all ages.

Mum Sara says the whole experience has been second to none.

She added: "Having the Wirral Limb Centre on our doorstep has been fantastic. It's helped us to deal with all sorts of situations and overcome them.

"It really has been, and continues to be, a solid support network and has helped Baylee to become our very own positive little superstar."

Baylee's prosthetist, Karen Bennett, said: "All the staff at Wirral Limb Centre are very proud of Baylee's achievements and are delighted to hear about her award.

"Baylee is a lovely girl who is an excellent role model for other children."
