MICHAEL Starke and Paul Broughton are two of the city's finest actors -whether on television or stage, they always give 100 per cent.

And each Scouse star, as audiences know, can switch from straight drama to comedy.

"Shed" is their first writing collaboration and with director Bob Eaton on the case, you have a polished two-hander that is heavy on dialogue, from poignant moments to some very funny observations.

It is good to see both actors out of their comfort zone. This is a thought-provoking play - a two-way confessional in an everyday allotment which contented Donny treats as his home from home.

Davey, living abroad, shares secrets with his pal of 50 years.

The two much-loved stars work very hard to give flesh to the characters.

Donny (Paul) and Davey (Michael) have real on stage chemistry which bodes well for future creative projects.

There is a tremendous shed set by designer Richard Foxton.

It a brave and admirable debut from Starke and Broughton.

Maybe some trimmimg is needed but it will bloom as the run continues.

Great to see new writing at the Royal Court. Kevin Fearon and his team have a loyal following and this is another string to the theatre's bow.

A standing ovation gave the writers all the encouragement they need.

Globe verdict: 8/10 A Shed load of memories.

The show runs until May 9.
