DETECTIVES have released CCTV stills of a man wanted in connection with an unprovoked attack in Bebington which left the victim with facial injuries.

The incident happened when a 54-year-old man went outside the Kings Arms pub on Kings Lane for a cigarette.

He was approached by a stranger who assaulted him then searched through his coat pockets before fleeing empty-handed.

The victim has been left distressed following the incident.

Police believe the man pictured may be able to assist them and they would urge him or anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Simon Douch​​ said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to the man pictured as we believe he could help us with our enquiries.

“I would also urge anyone who had been in The Kings Arms that night who may have seen the assault to get in touch.

"We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously and we are appealing to anyone with any information about the person responsible for this attack to call us so we can take action against them."

An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is on-going.
