VISITORS to a Wirral gallery were given the chance to watch the skill and speed of professional potters when they put a different spin on art at the weekend.

Fifteen potters made and sold selected work during a Throw-A-Thon at the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum on Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day event saw artists spread across three galleries, with Wirral Potters demonstrating their skills at throwing at the wheel and hand-building.

In a larger gallery, the “Potfest” of a large amount of work made by the group was set out on 10 long tables.

The weekend marked 40 years of making ceramics for Wirral Potters.

Some of the proceeds from the sales went to the Friends of Williamson, while a number of items were sold at £5 each to support the Eye Fund.

The charity was set up in 2007 by Paul and Carol Sherry in memory of their son Simon, who died at the age of 38.

It provides much-needed counselling and aid to those who are losing their sight due to degenerative diseases.
