A pilot project is to offer new parents more flexibility when registering the birth of a child.

From early April, parents will be able to register births on Wednesday mornings at Seacombe Children’s Centre, in addition to the usual arrangements for registering births at Birkenhead Town Hall.

Councillor Tony Smith, cabinet member for children and family services, said: “We hope that this pilot will prove popular with new parents, offering them another venue for birth registration and giving them a chance to see some of the support available from Wirral’s children’s centres.

“At the same time, parents can access a huge amount of help for the important first years of their child’s life, as well as meeting other new parents.”

Parents will still need to contact the Register Office by calling 0151 606 2020 to make an appointment, and will be offered a choice of venue.

Registering a birth is straightforward and appointments last for 30 minutes.
