SIX men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm after a major incident in Birkenhead this morning.
Diversions were put in place at Laird Street as police investigated reports of a man carrying what is believed to be a firearm at an address near St James' Church.
The alarm was sounded at around 6.30am today.
A major containment operation has now been stood-down and Laird Street has reopened to traffic.
A search at a property on the corner of Laird Street and Connaught Way is ongoing.
The suspects are in police custody and are being questioned.
More updates as we get them.
