THE company behind the Wirral Waters development have submitted plans for a similar venture in Trafford.

Peel Land & Property said the £1bn Trafford Waters will be situated on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal and will contain 3,000 high-density apartments as well as around 875,000 sq ft of commercial space.

It comes as Wirral Council draws up plans for a stimulus package to entice blue chip companies to the area after so far failing to attract investors.

James Whittaker, development director at Peel Land & Property, said: "We have been working on the vision and master plan for Trafford Waters for over 15 years. It will be an exemplar, sustainable development that will create a space for a new community to live, work and play."

Wirral Council’s cabinet will tonight be asked to approve plans which would see the authority borrow money to use to attract potential investors to the site.

The aim is to develop a “Wirral Waters Enterprise Zone Investment Plan”.

Construction work started on the landmark office development forming part of Wirral Waters in Birkenhead in December.

The Wirral development has two schemes underway  - one being the office development and the second part of Wirral Metropolitan College.

Work on the £8m college campus began in February. Once completed, it will specialise in enterprise and construction and transform 500 acres of Birkenhead Dockland.

Work on the campus is due to end in September. It will be the first key landmark on Wirral Waters – a 30-year project by Peel Group to transform the Birkenhead dockland, and one half of the Mersey Waters Enterprise Zone.

The multi-billion pound venture aims to transform Wirral's docklands into a world-class waterfront project forming part of a revived and vibrant city region.
