BUSINESS leaders in central Birkenhead are being urged to become part of a scheme which aims to improve the area.

Wirral Chamber of Commerce plans to introduce a Business Improvement District (BID).

It is described as a 'one-of-a-kind opportunity' for businesses to join together and invest in the future of the town by providing resources needed to deliver a variety of projects aimed at making a real difference.

To ensure BID targets the issues encountered by local businesses Wirral Chamber will begin a consultation over the coming months before the final district boundary and levy rate is agreed.

A BID business plan will then be produced outlining the BIDs aims and objectives with businesses then given the opportunity to vote of the creation of a BID later in the year.

The official BID launch will take place at the Laurie's Centre in Claughton Road, Birkenhead on Tuesdt at 9.30am on Tuesday, March 24.

Businesses located in central Birkenhead are being urged to attend.

BID co-ordinator Carl Critchlow said: "A Birkenhead BID would enable the private sector to take the initiative by making the changes that they want.

"It also gives the area the added security of a guaranteed level of funding for five years, allowing us to plan for the long-term needs of the town and its businesses.

"A successful BID will bring businesses in Birkenhead closer together, creating partnerships as we all work towards the same goal.

"The BID will also provide a powerful voice for the businesses of Birkenhead.”
