THE Kilkennys promise traditional Irish music with a twist when they come to Wirral as part of their current tour next month.

The band - who will be at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on April 30 - have a reputation for revitalising traditional Irish music and adding their own touch of passion and youthful energy.

Their forthcoming tour marks the group's return to mainland UK and to many venues where they played previously with their acclaimed tribute to the music of The Clancy Brothers, whose hits include Fine Girl Ye Are.

The group's vocalist Davey Cashin told the Globe this afternoon: "Irish and traditional folk music is alive and well.

"We're a young energetic band with a love for this style of music. During the tour we will give audiences some of this, as well as our own material.

"We don't like to think of the show as a covers show, we like to put our own stamp on the music we play.

"So, as well as using traditional instruments, we also use more instruments, such as drum kits.

"If you haven't heard or us seen us play live before, all I can say is we play traditional Irish music with a modern twist".

Formed at a very young age, the band has toured all over Ireland and taken their music as far afield as Las Vegas, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Abu Dhabi and the Czech Republic.

The band have almost three million YouTube hits and a packed schedule of shows for 2014/2015 all over the world.

Davey Cashin, Rob Campion, Tommy Mackey and Davey Long are excited about bringing their brand of Irish music to a UK audience.

Dave Cashin added: "We were four young lads with a dream of making it in the music business and it's come true for us.

"We're all in our late 20s / early 30s, and may be seen as relatively young to be playing Irish folk, but take the old stuff and make it our own.

"We've toured all over the UK and Europe and found that the music has gone down very well, particularly with audiences in Europe."

Tickets for their Floral Pavilion show, which starts at 8pm, are from www.floralpavilion.com or the box office on 0151 666 0000.
