A WIRRAL brewery's prize-winning bitter will be put to the taste against beers from across the country after making it through to the final of a national competition.

Brimstage Brewery's Scarecrow earned its place in the BeerX National Beer Competition after winning a Gold award from the regional Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).

It will be judged against beers of the same style from all over the country.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded in each category, as well as three Supreme Champion Awards, given to the best cask, keg and bottled beers.

Winners will be announced on March 18.

After being judged by a panel of more than 100 judges, all the beers will be sold to drinkers at the BeerX Festival of Beer.

Brimstage Brewery manager Allan Machin said: "We are very proud of our beers and delighted to have this opportunity to compete on a national stage against some of the finest beers from all over the UK.

"We're hoping to come home from BeerX with a medal and are pleased to be able to introduce our beer to hundreds of drinkers who haven’t tried it before.

"We're a small team which works very hard to produce great beer and are grateful to the many local pubs, shops and drinkers who have supported us."
